hey guys, I was just combing through my G+ page and found this from “off the rails”…

Tomorrow is the 4th Of July, But I don’t feel much like celebrating. I promised a friend that I would not write my next post until I had thought long & hard and prayed about what to say. This country is in the middle of some of the biggest controversies that I have lived through. We are surrounded by hatred, discussions of the Confederate Flag, and who should have the right to marry in this country. The 4th Of July represents our freeing ourselves from the tyranny and rule of England. But we have not yet liberated ourselves from the same tyranny and feelings of supremacy that the confederate flag was created to represent. There are those who want to change its original meaning from supremacy and hatred to pride and heritage, but you cannot change this flag’s original meaning to what you want it to be. If you are aware, on any level, of why this flag was created you would not want it to represent your heritage. If South Carolina and other states want a symbol to represent the true pride and heritage of the south, they will create a new symbol not tied to this one or to hate groups. In my opinion (and I am from the south) the pride of which you speak is in family values, respect for yourself, family, elders and others, and the knowledge that your beliefs are not to be forced on others. It is time for a new flag that represents what you say the south truly stands for and for the old one to come down. And we should not wait until January. As to the matter of gay marriage, as Christians (and I have read this in many places) it is not our job to judge. That is left up to God. We are to love one another as we love ourselves. If we are true Christians it is not our job to ask them what their views and preferences are before we help. Our job is to love, teach and spread the Word of God. The rest is up to Him.
